Not insisting on your own way is love!

Today, I got in a disagreement with mom. She wanted to go left, and I suggested that going right was better. I insisted and persuaded, but she would not budge! And even though I still think that my way is better, but I stopped trying to insist my own way upon her, because God says that "love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful."

I do pray though that the next time I encounter a similar situation, that I'd be more graceful and loving in dealing with it. God wants us to be loving and gentle to each other, just as He is to us!

Loving my mom - Part 3

Everyone has their pet peeves. Some people don't like others touching their feet, while others can't stand massages. I don't like ears. My own ears, I'm ok with, but I don't really like touching other people's ears, whether that is helping someone put on earrings, or cleaning them out.

Well, recently my mom got some water stuck in her ear, and it was really annoying her, so she asked if I could help. I really really really didn't want to. Giving her a massage, helping her clean her closet, or even giving her a pedicure, I'm ok with, but ugh... ears are a sensitive thing for me.

Needless to say, it took a lot of persuasion and prayer for me to give into helping her, after which I found out that it really wasn't too bad after all! Maybe God did have a purpose in mind when He created our ears ...

Loving others means stepping out of your comfort zone!

Home worship

I'm a huge fan of Sunday worship services. There's just something special about gathering with other brothers and sisters and worshiping God together. Normally, I would attend service with my parents in the morning, but because my mom has a bit of difficulty getting around, and because of granny's funeral, my dad was still in China and wasn't available to drive us to worship service this Sunday. So instead of venturing out, my mom and I we decided to stay in and conduct our own service instead.

It was the first time that I got to be the worship leader (aka I found a good praise song on youtube and played it), as well as the presider (aka I said the opening prayer for our time together). It was a simple service, but it was so refreshing at the same time. Although I still love Sunday worship services, but God reminded me that we have the ability to worship Him anywhere, anytime. What freedom! What sovereignty!

Loving my mom 2

This Saturday morning dawned a little differently than normal. Originally, I had planned a fun day of going kayaking with my cousin, but unfortunately, because of tropical cyclone Conson, the outing got cancelled. So instead of hanging out with my cousin, I decided to spend time with my mom. We ended up cleaning out a cupboard, which is definitely not the most fun of tasks, but in the process, we dug up some old memories that we had a good laugh over. I'm so thankful for my mom, for her unconditional love, and for all the great times that we shared together.
